My Story: Autumn in Hawaii

How does Autumn look in Hawaii?

It looks a little something like this...

Growing up on an island all my life, I was always spoiled with the lovely, warm "island weather." All I ever knew was the droplets of rain on my face, endless year-round sunshine, & rainbows! As a little girl, I had no notion of "Fall" & "Winter" and never knew a hint of cold, nor have I ever experience the childhood wonders of making a snow angel as Christmastime came around, signifying the end of Fall and the beginning of winter. You could always sense when Autumn, or Fall, was just around the corner, as the gray monsoon clouds would roar overhead, and engulf what little bursts of sunshine our tiny island had left. The rain would pour, and as it came down, I always thought it sounded like that odd static sound a television would make when it had lost it's signal. I never really liked the sound of rain, yet there was something special about Autumn time, that I've always loved. I loved that precise moment when the rain has been lifted, when all those gray clouds wander off into oblivion. It is a special moment. The moment you step foot outside your porch, and you're wrapped in a blanket of freshness, and that fragrance infused in the air.. a hint of freshly cut grass & a beautiful, sunshiny morning, when the sun first peeks through the clouds to welcome the day. In this moment, new life is born. Tropical flowers blooming, the ocean breeze is soothing, and rainbows pierce our skies from one end of the island to the other. All in all, Autumn has a special significance to me. Autumn has always been about growth & appreciation. Personal growth from life's hardships & pain throughout our lives, represented by the raindrops, but through the storm, makes way for new life & new beginnings, signified by the blooming of our island's most breathtaking floras. Coincidentally, Thanksgiving goes hand in hand with the Autumn season. In the islands, it's always been about family. Autumn is a prelude to Winter, which has always been a time of coming together as a family. Appreciating the goodness in life, the good people who love you, and the appreciation of life itself. This is the essence of Autumn. Loving, appreciating, and being grateful for all life's little blessings.

Today, I would like to ask you to take a moment for yourself and reflect on this year, and take note of all the little things YOU are grateful for in your life. Go ahead.. make a list. :) A list to always remind yourself why YOU are happy to be alive. Happy Autumn/Fall everyone! :)

Aloha from the islands of Hawaii,
